Virtual Private Server vs. Dedicated Server

Virtual server technologies such as Microsoft’s Virtual Server 2005 RS take a single physical server and partition it into multiple isolated virtual private servers. These isolated virtual private servers perform as though they each are an independent physical sever, complete with their own emulated hardware, operating system, init scripts, users, software, processes, filesystems, etc.

Each virtual server provides full root access so customers are not accessing a shared root directory. Because they have the look, feel, and partitioning of being an independent physical server, each VS has its own IP address, port numbers, tables, routing rules, etc. – all the characteristics and feature functionality associated with a stand-alone physical server.

Benefits of a virtual server over a dedicated server include:

Cost – A VS gives you all the bells and whistles of a dedicated sever but at a fraction of the cost.

Data Integrity – A VS allows customers to leverage the power of a RAID 5 array to ensure that the integrity of their data is preserved.

Hardware/Software Management & Upgrades – VS hardware upgrades and operating system software upgrades/patches are maintained by Toozr, not our customers. This includes the costs associated with the upgrades.

Feature/Functionality – A VS looks and acts the same as a dedicated server.

Dynamic Resource Allocation – In a VS environment, customers can tap into additional resources as needed without affecting others. This can be done because customers are allocated their own dedicated resources, which guarantees that their websites and applications perform at optimal speeds. Additionally, VS customers do not need to overspend in a VS solution or suffer downtime in such resource upgrades, which would likely be the case in a dedicated server solution.

Performance – Our hardware is built using top of the line products from the leaders in the industry. Our commitment is to continue to push the envelope and stay ahead of the technology curve because we are providing customers with the look and feel of a stand alone server. Thus, our VS customers can have the peace of mind that they will continue to receive the latest and greatest in hardware server components, which isn’t necessarily true in a dedicated server environment. In a dedicated server environment, a hosting company would rather lease a box to a customer for as long as possible without investing anything in the box overtime.
